Convey the feeling of the word “extraordinary” through motion, using typography, rhythm, and transformation. Inspired by Pentagram’s interpretation, I wanted to craft something that evoked awe and surprise through timing and movement.
Approach:
I began by sketching ideas that emphasized buildup and visual rhythm. After developing an animatic to test timing, I explored exaggerated motion — scale, rotation, distortion — to amplify the transition from extra to ordinary.
Concept And Motion:
The final animation forms a whirlpool-like motion: the word “extra” spins and morphs into “ordinary” through fluid, water-like transitions. A dramatic black-and-white color inversion emphasizes the shift, visually representing transformation. This fluid motion and bold contrast aim to evoke wonder — turning the ordinary into something truly extraordinary.
REFLECTION
This project pushed my understanding of how typography + motion create meaning. It sharpened my attention to pacing, timing, and emotional impact in motion design — and how pushing boundaries can elevate a single word into an experience." on my project page under my motion piece
